CUA appoints Alan Beanland as Board Chairman
26 November 2009
Australia’s largest credit union, CUA, appointed Alan Beanland as Board Chairman following today’s Annual General Meeting in Brisbane.
Mr Beanland’s 40 years domestic and international experience in financial services, including deep expertise in the superannuation and life insurance sectors, aligns with CUA’s ambition of leading the evolution of change in the Australian mutual market.
Mr Beanland is currently Chairman of Superpartners, Australia’s largest superannuation administrator, and is also a Director of Spotless Group Limited and Hancock Victorian Plantations. In addition, Mr Beanland continues to advise selected businesses in the financial services, technology and property sectors.
Chief Executive of CUA, Chris Whitehead, said “The quality of skills, experience and relationships that Mr Beanland brings, reflects the growing stature of credit unions in Australia”.
Mr Whitehead also noted “Alan’s experience and insights, into the superannuation sector in particular, will provide CUA with a critical advantage for playing a leadership role in our sector. We are delighted with this appointment and the senior management team at CUA looks forward to working with Alan and his Board.”
Mr Beanland acknowledged the ongoing service of the previous Chair, Mr Kevin Ross who was elected for a further term of three years at the AGM. “Kevin has provided vital leadership as Chairman over a difficult period for the industry and I congratulate him on his re-appointment as a Director”.
Mr Beanland added that he was looking forward to working with the Board and Management of CUA to further develop a strong and better value alternative to the major Banks. “There is a critical role for credit unions and mutuals to play in supporting every day, working Australians to achieve their personal ambitions”
Mr Beanland, who joined the CUA Board in September this year, will assume his new responsibilities immediately.
